Tyre Inspection and Maintenance
Tyre rotation
Regularly rotating your tyres promotes even wear and helps extend their lifespan. We can include this in your routine servicing schedule.
Visible damage
We carefully inspect for cuts, cracks, bulges or other sidewall damage that could compromise the tyre’s integrity.
Tyre pressure
Correct pressure helps your car handle properly and improves fuel economy. We’ll check and adjust tyre pressures as part of your service.
Tread wear
We check tread depth and wear patterns to ensure your tyres are safe and wearing evenly. Uneven wear can point to alignment, suspension or tyre pressure issues that need attention.
Tread indicators
All tyres have small raised bars between the tread grooves. Once the tread is level with these indicators, it’s time for replacement.

Tyre Replacement Guidelines
When to replace
Tyres should be replaced when tread depth reaches the wear indicators, or if there’s any damage to the tread, sidewall or bead area.
Replacing in pairs
If your tyres still have some life left, it’s best to replace them in pairs on the same axle to maintain balanced handling and grip.
4WD vehicles
Some modern four-wheel-drives require all four tyres to be replaced at once. Our technicians can advise what’s right for your vehicle.
Load and speed ratings
We make sure new tyres match or exceed your vehicle’s manufacturer requirements for load index and speed rating. This information can be found on your vehicle’s tyre placard, usually located inside the driver’s door jamb.
The 3% rule
When changing tyre sizes, the new diameter should not differ by more than 3% from the original. This ensures your safety systems and performance remain accurate.
What cannot be repaired
Certain types of damage mean a tyre must be replaced, including:
Sidewall cuts or bulges
Bead damage (where the tyre meets the wheel)
Shoulder damage affecting the tyre’s structure
These areas are critical to the tyre’s strength and cannot be safely repaired.
Responsible disposal
At Passmore Automotive, we care about the environment as much as your safety. Old tyres removed from vehicles are collected and responsibly disposed of through accredited recycling partners, ensuring they don’t end up in landfill.
